W.O.E. YouTube: Watches Of Fighter Pilots & Military Aviators

Revealing The Omega, Breitling, Rolex, & IWC Watches Used As Tools By Military Pilots

From Navy and Air Force fighter pilots to the Hollywood theatrics of Top Gun, watches are crucial tools and a key aspect of culture in the cockpit. Many pilots, both military and civilian, opt for mechanical GMTs and chronographs from brands like Rolex, Omega, Breitling, and Seiko. Among aviation professionals, the Use Your Tools ethos is alive and well.

In this new video on the W.O.E. YouTube Channel, we’ll explore the real watches used by pilots, because whether it’s Chuck Yeager’s Rolex GMT, a custom squadron IWC, or the recently released Omega Speedmaster Flight Qualified, in the cockpit, a watch is never just a watch.

I recently asked a decorated FAC pilot what he wore in Vietnam. He said it was a $120 PX bought Omega Speedy Pro and also wore it during most of his national guard and commercial pilot career until he “dropped it in coffee.” He didn’t seem very interested in servicing it either. I need help changing his mind.

Santos-Dumont was a true genius, and as happens with many of them, he also possessed a certain naivety and suffered from depression.
He was deeply attached to his invention, the aeroplane. We Brazilians will always claim that Santos-Dumont was the first to fly.
In 1932, the state of São Paulo declared war on the Union, demanding a new constitution. At the time, Brazil was under a left-populist dictatorship led by Getúlio Vargas, who had seized power in a coup and dissolved Congress.
Santos-Dumont was struggling with severe depression. He was in Guarujá, a well-known coastal resort city, where he witnessed a dogfight between two aeroplanes during that conflict. Traumatised by seeing his invention being weaponised, he decided to end his life.
Santos-Dumont was a man who both lived and died for aviation.
